🌼 Joy Is Our Language

A message from CEO & Founder, Sharifay Sharif

Joy is the heartbeat of Smiley’s Nonprofit Inc. It’s the way we show up, the way we serve, and the way we connect with every child, family, and neighbor in Kansas City, Kansas.

When we created our “Joy Is Our Language” graphic, we wanted something that reflected the spirit of our community a community made up of many cultures, many stories, and many beautiful ways of expressing joy.

At Smiley’s, joy isn’t just an emotion. It’s a value. It’s a practice. It’s the foundation of every program we run from backpacks to warmth, from food support to baby essentials, from women’s reading circles to community events. Joy is how we greet families, how we prepare supplies, how we organize our drives, and how we build trust. It’s the language we speak even when words differ.

That’s why this graphic includes “joy” in languages spoken by the families we serve: Arabic, Somali, Spanish, Igbo, French, Urdu, Korean, Hebrew, Chinese, Hindi, Turkish, Portuguese, Zulu, Swahili, Yoruba, Polish, Irish, Punjabi, ASL, and more. Each translation is a reminder that joy belongs to everyone, and everyone belongs at Smiley’s. The smiling sun and heart line reflect the warmth, hope, and compassion we bring into every interaction. They symbolize the light we aim to share and the love that guides our work.

This design is more than art. It’s a declaration of who we are. Smiley’s Nonprofit Inc. is a multicultural, multilingual, community‑rooted organization built on dignity and care. No matter where someone comes from or what language they speak, joy is the bridge that connects us. Joy is our welcome. Joy is our culture. Joy is our language, and we do this because it truly makes us happy.

Welcome to Smiley’s, where the default language is joy.🤎
